- The rheological properties of liquìd interfaces play and important role in the stabillty of disperse systems like foams and emulsions. It is then of increasing interest to investigate the effect on such properties of new classes of stabilisers, i. e. surfactants associated to solid particles. In this work an experimental study is presented based on the measurement of surface properties of liquid-liquid and liquid-air systems in the presence of colloidal nanoparticles. Equilibrium and kinetic interfacial tension as wefl as the dilational visco-elasticity versus the perturbation frequency have been measured by two different drop tensiometers. A computer assisted pendant drop tensiometer allowed the dilational visco-elasticity to be measured in the dilational visco-elasticity to be acquire and to be measured in the frequency range (0.001- 0.2 Hz), while a Capillary Pressure tensiometer was utilised for the higher frequency (0.1-100 Hz). The systems studied were CTAB aqueous solution at water-air and water-hexane interface in presence and in absence of colloidal silica suspension. The measurements have been done at different surfactant and nanoparticle concentrations. Proper thermodynamic and kinetic models are then applied to the interpretation of these data. The results show that for the investigated system the dilation rheological properties of liquid-liquid interfaces are especially sensitive to the addition of nanoparticles. (literal)
