- Water vapour permeability and thermo-oxidative stability of films made of polyamide 6 (PA6) blended to ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol (EVOH) in the presence of a carboxyl-modified EVOH (EVOHCOOH) as a compatibilizer with potential application as innovative food packaging materials were studied. The presence of EVOH markedly decreases the water vapour permeability with respect to the pure PA6. An increased water vapour resistivity was observed in the case of the blend containing carboxyl-modified EVOH. Thermo-oxidative stability of blends of nylon 6 and ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol is greatly improved with respect to the neat polyamide. The presence of carboxyl-modified EVOH as a compatibilizer does not affect markedly the kinetics of thermal oxidation, while the tensile strain after long times of ageing is greater with respect to the binary blend.
