- Abstract
- L'abuso di alcol e la dipendenza da alcol costituiscono un grave problema di ordine medico, economico e sociale, che nei Paesi occidentali investe circa il 15% della popolazione adulta. Sfortunatamente, le terapie farmacologiche attualmente disponibili non sono totalmente soddisfacenti, soprattutto per via della modesta efficacia e della bassa aderenza al trattamento; si ritiene che nuovi e più efficaci rimedi farmacologici possano essere concepiti solo quando siano state individuate le alterazioni neurobiologiche che sono alla base della patologia.
All'interno di questa cornice, la Commessa \"Neurobiologia dell'alcolismo\" si propone di proseguire (a) lo studio delle basi neurochimiche e comportamentali dell'alcolismo e (b) la caratterizzazione del profilo \"anti-alcol\" di alcuni farmaci [quali, ad esempio, gli agonisti diretti ed i modulatori allosterici positivi del recettore GABA(B), i derivati e/o analoghi dell'acido gamma-idrossibutirrico ed alcuni farmaci di origine naturale] di potenziale interesse nel trattamento dell'alcolismo. Queste sperimentazioni verranno condotte utilizzando i ratti Sardinian alcohol-preferring (sP), un validato modello animale di alcolismo. (literal)
